The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible, low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to New Mexico's communities. However, New Mexico's Human Services Division (NMHSD) is seeking to require low-income parents, teens, and elders to engage in unpaid work requirements in order to receive SNAP benefits. Please attend the NM Legislature's hearing on the SNAP Work Rules to share how this requirement will impact you or someone you know.
How you can help
Share your digital, written, and photographic stories of what SNAP means to our communities to submit as public comment to the NMHSD and possibly the NM Legislature’s Interim Health and Human Services Committee; to increase public attendance at the LHHS’s Committee meeting in Las Cruces on July 16, 2015; and increase public attendance at NMHSD’s public hearing on the SNAP work rules on July 17, 2015 in Santa Fe. Please also submit comments to Governor Susanna Martinez' office at 505-476-2200to share your opposition to the SNAP work requirements for parents or people ages 16 to 18 and 50 to 60.
