NMPHA 2015 Preconference Workshops

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES Participants will be able to find and navigate websites that feature interactive data tools describing characteristics of New Mexico neighborhoods.Participants, by exploring maps and data tools in the context of their own community issues, will be able to explain key indicators and community assessment concepts, compare community risks and assets, explore relations between social determinants and health outcomes at the neighborhood level, and facilitate participatory evidence-based decision making among their constituencies. Participants will be motivated to continue learning and applying the skills both on their own and with the help of NMCDC collaborators and online learning resources
  • Afternoon Session 1PM - 4PM
    This collaborative pre-conference workshop presented by the New Mexico Injury Prevention Coalition (NMIPC) and the New Mexico Public Health Association will focus on violence as an issue that has the potential to bring public health and injury prevention professionals to work collaboratively to make a difference in all New Mexico communities. The presentation will highlight the prevalence adverse childhood experiences and violence across the lifespan and provide information specific to child abuse and neglect, teen suicide, domestic & sexual violence, homicide and adult suicide, and elder abuse. In addition the workshop will discuss violence prevention principles and programs and include a facilitated and interactive discussion of the programs and work being done in the 33 New Mexico Counties by involving the audience present. Finally, the work shop will introduce the New Mexico Violent Death Reporting System (NM-VDRS) an incident-based surveillance system that collects information on all violent deaths occurring in NM.pm
