Keynote Speaker

Dr. Rajiv Bhatia is a medical doctor and preventative medicine practitioner who has worked for two decades for population health, environmental sustainability, and political inclusion. Currently, the Director at The Civic Engine and a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley, Rajiv is developing applications of information and communication technologies for civic engagement and healthy public policy.

About the Forum:

The NMPHA Annual Health Policy Legislative Forum provides a unique opportunity for organizations and individuals working to improve community health to come together, learn, discuss timely issues, and share their legislative proposals for the upcoming legislative session. Organizations are given a chance to make brief statements about their legislative proposals, and a booklet containing summary information about their proposals is distributed widely. Participants can identify allies and possible collaborators, as well as request support from NMPHA and other participating organizations.

Highlights of the 2014 Forum include:

Our morning panel will examine several angles of Health in All Policies: creating healthy built environments for our communities (Dr. Claudia Isaac); engaging stakeholders and supporting health equity in all our policies (Dr. Magdalena Avila); and incorporating an HiAP approach into our ongoing, governmental decision-making process to create structural or process change that promotes and protects health (Sen. Tim Keller).

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Rajiv Bhatia, is a well-known pioneer in Health in All Policies and will share with us both the history of this approach and the key elements for successful and effective implementation, as well as on-the-ground examples of HiAP in action.

Afternoon breakout sessions, to feature workshops on end of life issues, youth initiatives, health care updates, health in all policies, and many more!
